   • 지카 바이러스를 비롯한 플라비바이러스는 표면 단백질을 사람 세포와 결합하는 데 이용한다. 표면의 단백질이 인체의 세포와 결합하는 과정에서 사람이 감염되는 것이다. 연구를 이끈 마이클 로스만 퍼듀대 교수는 “이번 연구에서 밝힌 지카 바이러스 표면의 특정 단백질을 조절할 수 있다면 지카 백신이나 치료제, 정밀 진단 방법을 빠르게 개발할 수 있을 것”이라고 밝혔다.

6. 크리그스타인 교수의 연구결과는 지카 바이러스가 태아의 눈과 뇌를 형성하는 세포에서 만들어지는 AXL 단백질을 감염시켜 태아 뇌의 정상적인 성장을 방해할 수 있다는 점을 시사한다. 지카 바이러스와 신생아 소두증과의 연관관계가 사실로 드러날 가능성이 큰 것이다.
